— About
Edd Ravn creates moments of contemplation that challenge perceptions of place and time and explore how continuums constantly interweave. Oscillating between watercolors using rainwater, bacterial growth, drawing, sound and public furniture, Ravn moves across genre meditating on change and interconnectedness.
Inviting sensory organ microbiomes into his painting, collaboratively recording sound at simultaneous times around the world, and designing public furniture, brings private experiences to public ones; Ravn’s abstractions engage in one of the most animate phenomena of all: contradiction.
Deeply inspired by the art movements Mono-ha and Fluxus, the linguist Rosmarie Waldrop, Buddhist literature, and biodiverse farming, Edd Ravn grounds his philosophical influences in a ‘telepathic understanding of form’, the mentality cited by artist Nobou Sekine, that identifies the ability to communicate and transform with an artwork.
